CSPI ANNOUNCES RECIPIENT OF 2016 SHAWN CORWIN-MYLAND AWARD

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 8, 2016 – The Board of Directors of Convention Sales Professionals International (CSPI) announced Irene Sperling, Vice President and Associate Publisher of Trade Show Executive as this year’s recipient of the prestigious Shawn Corwin-Myland Award bestowed by the association. Irene has been an active member, friend and supporter of CSPI since joining Trade Show Executive in 2003.
Convention Sales Professionals International (CSPI) formerly The Association for Convention Sales and Marketing Executives (ACME) is dedicated to fostering the spirit of collaborative success between convention sales professionals and brings together convention centers, hotels and destination marketing organizations so they can seamlessly serve their shared clients. Its mission, in part, is to deliver education, foster creative change in the industry, develop best practices, and track industry trends worldwide while working together to positively impact the economic prosperity of a city or region.
According to CSPI the award is given annually in memory of Shawn Corwin-Myland a long standing member and past president of the association who lost her battle with cancer in October of 2006. The award is given to a member in good standing who is considered by the board to be “a leader and contributor, dedicated and committed to the CSPI mission, hardworking and well respected in the industry and an individual who is passionate about the success of CSPI and other CSPI members.
Irene began her trade show career as Marketing Coordinator of Seminars and Trade Shows for the International Security Conferences, owned and produced by Reed Exhibitions. She also served as Show Manager for their Kitchen and Bath series of shows. In 1979, she was tapped to become Advertising Manager of Tradeshow Week and moved from the Exhibitions division of Reed to the Newsletter division. Through the years, she rose through the ranks to Vice President/ Director of Sales & Marketing and was promoted to Publisher in March 2000. Sperling retired from Tradeshow Week in 2002 and joined Trade Show Executive in 2003 as Vice President/Associate Publisher.
The Shawn Corwin-Myland award was presented at CSPI’s Annual Conference and 25th Anniversary Celebration held on February 8, 2016 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Washington DC.
